In UKG or Class 1, recognising and writing a letter can feel like the main task.

At the study table, make the correction smaller

Instead of asking for a whole page again, choose one small letter. Look at where its body sits. Notice whether it has a tall stroke or a tail. Then practise for ten minutes.

For small-letter bodies, the important space is between line 2 and line 3. Tall letters extend above that space. Tails reach down towards line 4.

Now you have something specific to point to.

Not "This is untidy."

Instead: "This a stayed in its space. Let us make the next one the same height."

The aim is a short, clear practice session, not a full evening of rubbing out.

What a week of ten minutes can look like

You do not have to finish the alphabet in one week.

Use the week to make practice manageable. The following is a suggested home routine, not a promise that every child will correct letter size in seven days.

Day 1: Find one thing to work on.

Open the school notebook together. Pick one small letter whose size keeps changing. Print the relevant practice page and spend a few minutes noticing where that letter sits.

Day 2: Stay with the same letter.

Repetition is useful here. Ask your child to keep the letter body in the middle space. At the end, let them point to the attempt that sits most clearly on the line.

Day 3: Practise another middle-space letter.

Choose a letter such as a, c, or o. Keep the instruction the same: the body belongs between line 2 and line 3.

Day 4: Notice a tall letter.

Choose a tall letter such as l. Compare its height with a middle-space letter. The letters should not all be made equally tall.

Day 5: Give a tail its space.

Work on a letter such as g or y. Point out the part that sits in the middle space and the tail that goes below it.

Day 6: Return to the difficult one.

Reprint a page if needed. There is no need to move ahead just because yesterday’s sheet has been used.

Day 7: Look back at the school notebook.

Can your child spot a small letter sitting in the right place? Is there one letter that still needs attention? Use that observation to choose next week’s practice.

Keep each session around ten minutes. If your child is tired, stop earlier rather than turning the sheet into a punishment.
