Capital C starts just below line 1, curves up and to the left, then sweeps round and down to line 3, finishing with a small tail that turns right. Small c is the same shape shrunk into the middle space between line 2 and line 3. On both forms the opening faces right.

What to watch on four-line copy

Keep the curve round. A flattened c starts to look like an e.
Small c must not climb above line 2, even when it follows a tall letter.
Both forms end pointing right, which is what lets c join into a, e and o.

The mistake to correct first

Closing the curve. c is an open letter, and once the two ends meet it becomes o. Ask the child to check the gap before moving to the next letter.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
