How to write the letter Z in cursive

Capital Z starts near line 1, runs across to the right, slants back down to line 3, then loops below into the space above line 4 before joining. Small z has a flat top inside the middle space, a slant back down to line 3, and a small loop under the base line.

What to watch on four-line copy

Keep the top of z flat. A curved top turns it into a badly formed s.
Both forms dip below line 3, which surprises most children, since print z sits on the line.
z is the last letter to teach. Write zoo and zebra the same day it is learned.

The mistake to correct first

Small z copied from print, with no loop at the bottom. Without that loop the letter cannot join what comes after it.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
